Geometric Activity *This activity originally used the Geometric Cabinet, but due to cost I found these great shapes you can use for years to come. You can modify this activity as needed. In advance, you can trace the outline of each shape onto card stock to make your own set of geometric shape cards.
Place a tray of shapes including the circle, a triangle, and a square in front of the child. Demonstrate to the child how to trace the edge of each piece with your finger. Repeat with each shape. Present the geometric shape cards and demonstrate how to place the shapes onto the cards. Repeat this exercise until the child is familiar with the shapes and begin to introduce the name of each shape. Gradually introduce the other figures until the child has seen each shape and is familiar with them.
The goal of this activity is to help the child recognize basic figures of plane geometry through visual and tactile senses and to learn the vocabulary of geometric shapes.
