STACKING ACTIVITY *This activity was originally called the spool stacking game. I could not find many colored spools on amazon, but if you want to make your own they can be found in craft stores. A great alternative are wedgits. They come in many sizes and colors.
Carry the container with the shapes to the work area. Invite the child to join you in this activity. Show the child the different colored shapes. Pour the shapes onto the work area. Ask the child to stack the shapes by matching colors. Ask the child to then match by size. Allow the child to explore and make different patterns with the shapes. The purpose of this activity is to help the child discriminate by size and color. You can vary this activity by making patterns with the shapes and have the child repeat the pattern made.
